What Is Head and Neck Cancer Treatment?
Head and neck cancers involve a range of malignancies that affect the mouth, throat, larynx, nasal passages, salivary glands, and related areas. These cancers may be linked to tobacco and alcohol use, HPV infection, and environmental exposure. At Lifefirst Imaging and Oncology in Cullman, AL, under the direction of Dr. Vincent Karolewics, patients have access to precision-based radiation therapy for cancer as part of a personalized care plan. Radiation may be used alone, after surgery, or alongside chemotherapy, depending on the diagnosis and treatment goals.
How Is Radiation Therapy For Head and Neck Cancer Treatment Performed?
Radiation therapy at Lifefirst Imaging and Oncology is delivered using specialized techniques that help preserve vital functions, like speech and swallowing. External beam radiation therapy (EBRT) is commonly used to target tumors with high-energy radiation. Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) allow the radiation dose to conform closely to the tumor's shape while protecting nearby organs, such as the salivary glands, spinal cord, and jawbone. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is ideal for treating small or recurrent tumors in fewer sessions. Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) improves targeting accuracy using imaging before and during each treatment. Depending on the case, postoperative radiation therapy may be used to eliminate residual cancer cells, or definitive radiation therapy may serve as the primary treatment when surgery is not appropriate.

Head and Neck Cancer Treatment Reviews
I've been meaning to do this for a while now! Dr Karlowics and his whole team are THE BEST!!! I believe he and his nurses were placed in their position by the Lord!! They truely care and you know that when you are their patient. They ask you how your doing and actually listen to your response and offer suggestions on how to remedy or deal with it. So many doctors that I have visited do not. They might ask how your doing but while your answering they are washing their hands or typing in their computer while nodding and you just know they arent paying attention. They just take a devestating situation and make you feel better about it. They care about your comfort through the whole process!! Definitely recommend them!!!
No matter how you look at it, there isn’t much positive to say about cancer, but competent, life affirming care is the first and best step. The good folks at LifeFirst are friendly and compassionate, and they won’t rush you through the program without taking the time to answer your questions. I have been impressed with Dr. Karolewics and the great team that he has assembled in his practice. You really can’t feel healthy until you feel like you are well cared for, and, to a one, they will give you that confidence. Cancer treatment takes a little a hand holding everyday, and I have to say Kim, everyday for two months, was that person for me — just one heck of a sweet girl. You’ll get the care your body needs, the encouragement and compassion your spirt needs and the peace of mind you deserve at LifeFirst during every visit.
Truly believe this team saved my life with their compassion and ability to make treatment as less stressful as possible. Doc is great as well with his knowledge and thoroughness.
